Mission
HRIP's mission is to promote human dignity and social justice by integrating international human rights principles into local, regional, and national programs in the United States.
Methods
HRIP works with local, state and national policy makers, community activists, and other non-profit organizations to incorporate international human rights principles into local law and regulations in the areas of health, housing, education and the elimination of discrimination in order to improve program effectiveness and government accountability.
Who we are
Jean Connolly Carmalt, Esq., Co-Director. Ms. Carmalt is currently a PhD Candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington. Previously, she was the Legal Coordinator with the Center for Economic and Social Rights. Some of Ms. Carmalt's publications include: Holding the U.S. Accountable: How American Health Care Fails to Meet International Human Rights Standards, Entrenched Inequity: Health Care in the United States of America (with Sarah Zaidi and Ali Yamin), and Rights and Place: Using Geography in Human Rights Work. She received her B.A. from Vassar College and her J.D. from Cornell University School of Law.
Roslyn Solomon, Esq., Co-Director. Over the past 20 years, Ms. Solomon has practiced law in the private sector, taught as an adjunct professor at the Seattle University School of Law and served as an Administrative Law Judge for State of Washington. She has sat on the Boards of: The First Avenue Service Center; American Jewish Committee; and the Women's Endowment Foundation. She is a founder and member of the board of the Jewish Women’s Funding Network. She recently completed projects for PATH, the Grameen Technical Center and Health Alliance International. Ms. Solomon received her B.A. from Wellesley College and her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.
